Your truck’s exhaust can warn you of potential fuel or system issues. Unfortunately, these issues can be challenging to diagnose, but there are some tell-tale signs you need diesel engine repair.

Excessive Exhaust

Is your semi-truck releasing more exhaust than it usually does? A sudden spike in exhaust emissions can indicate issues with your fuel system. It could be a problem with the fuel injector. When the injector works correctly, it supplies the engine with fuel so that it can combust efficiently and cleanly. Sudden excessive exhaust could mean the injector is clogged with deposits and you need semi-truck repair.

Fleet managers can reduce the build-up of deposits by using fuel with injection stabilizers and premium diesel fuel.

Black Exhaust

If your truck blows black exhaust, it is a diesel engine problem. There is too much soot in the exhaust, likely caused by a problem with the fuel system. For example, it could be a plugged fuel filter. That filter needs to be clean and clear to allow clean fuel to flow freely.

Fuel filters can clog when fuel that passes through doesn’t burn completely during combustion. That leftover fuel makes its way back into the fuel line for another cycle, clogging the filter along the way. If this is the case, it’s a good idea to come in for maintenance and semi-truck repair.

Sooty exhaust harms the environment and will reduce your truck’s performance. You need to free up that fuel flow! Diesel fuel additives can help prevent this issue.

Additives Prevent Exhaust and Diesel Engine Problems

Splurging on premium diesel fuel can improve the performance and efficiency of your diesel trucks. Premium diesel contains fuel additives that help extend the life of vehicles and prevent semi-truck repairs. Here are some benefits:

  • Cleaner engine and exhaust.
  • Prevents fuel oxidation deposits.
  • Fast start-ups.
  • Keeps out moisture.
  • Reduces friction, wear and tear.
